Psalm: 34
Gospel: Mark 5:1-20
Patristic Reading: An excerpt from a treatise of St. John Chrysostom

Y’know……no matter how many times I read this story, I can’t help but feel a little sorry for the pigs. One minute they’re out playing the mud, and the next…..boom right off the cliff 😛

In healing the man possessed by a Legion of demons….it’s hard to talk about anything other than the miraculous exorcism…but I’m going to try lol 🙂

Truth be told, I didn’t get this reflection material on my own. Fydor Dostoyevsky (my favourite “classic” author) uses the line about the pigs going over the cliff as a metaphor in The Possessed.

The novel itself explores the varied and dangerous political ideologies surrounding pre-revolution Russia, and how each character’s philosophy ultimately leads to either their own downfall, or the ruin of those around them.

With that mind, I throw the question out there: What demons are leading us away from God and send us instead on a self-destructive path down the cliff??? What evil thoughts lurk in our hearts and our minds that are causing a danger to your spiritual health???+
