Station II: Jesus Is Given His Cross

Come to me all that are heavy laden and I will refresh you…..my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Matt 11:28;30)

Our Lord gives us freedom from the weight of suffering and death….but where does it go? Does it disappear into the ether? Do the consequences of Sin no longer apply? Does justice go unsatisfied?

No. Justice is indeed demanded and placed upon the weary shoulders of Christ. Bloodied, beaten, mocked and scorned…there is still yet another level of torture. The weight he carries is not a simple wooden cross…..but a cross which also bears the sins and transgressions of the whole world. My God carries my sin for me….and does so with love.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on us sinners. Remember us when you come into your kingdom. +
